Contradictions between The Books of Jasher and Jubilees?

Did the Apostles use the Greek Septuagint of the Old Testament? Is this not proof that Jesus and the Apostles accepted the Apocrypha and Pseudepigraphica?

Contradictions between The Books of Jasher and Jubilees?

Postby georgevinnit777 » Sat Jul 04, 2015 7:52 pm

This discussion is purely for study.

I am new to the Apocrypha. And I like so far what I have been reading. I have been reading the Book of Jubilees and Jasher almost simultaneously. But something does feel out of place when I read about the accounts of Abram/Abraham in both the books. The Book of Jubilees points out that Abram asks his father Terah of the idols in his house and expresses displeasure which is shared by his father in his heart but has to administer duties as a priest to the idols as he has been told to do by the king. And Abram in his anger secretly sets fire to the house of idols and behaves as he knows nothing. Haran rushes to save the idols and gets maimed in the process and dies.

Whereas, the account is totally different in the Book of Jasher. Here, Abram is angry at his father for housing idols and serving them and he breaks them and sarcastically defends his actions in front of his father Terah and king Nimrod. The king then reprimands Abram and ultimately puts him in the furnace at Casdim along with his brother Haran and God saves Abram very similar to the classic account in Daniel, and Haran gets burnt and dies.

Anybody want to comment on this or offer an explanation for this?

I was also wondering the same type of thing. Jubilees has Esau being killed by Jacob but Jasher has Esau being beheaded at Jacob's funeral. Hope someone has a good answer.
I know that so far Jubilees appears to have more manuscript evidence with Dead Sea Scrolls and others.

Also the Testament of Judah says Jacob killed Esau with an arrow.

The Book of Jasher (that is, the book we now have that is called "the Book of Jasher") is an early modern forgery (18th century), while the Book of Jubilees is quite a bit older. I myself am not entirely sure whether the Book of Jubilees can be considered canon, but assuming that you do accept it as such, then Jubilees is the source you should go with.

in order to know wich one is true, because if is there a contradiction then that means that one isn't true, remember that when a prophet say one untrue prophecy all is works al lie. So we must compare these two books with scripture to know wich is true, as far as i am able to tell, there are two references of the book of jasher in the bible :
Joshua 10:12-13
12 At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped,
until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.
Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stopped in the midst of heaven and did not hurry to set for about a whole day

2 Samuel 1:18
and he said it1 should be taught to the people of Judah; behold, it is written in qthe Book of Jashar.2 He said:

But there is none of the book of jubilees, and both of the books can't be canon, they contradict each other. and the book of jubilees contradict the dates of genesisby almost 300 years.

Genesis put the birth of Noah at 1056 after Genesis 5:3-29.

Birth...........................Age of the father at birth................ world age
Adam.......................... ---------------------...................................0
Seth...........................130........................................................130
Enos..........................105........................................................235
Cainan.......................90..........................................................325
Mahalaleel...............70...........................................................395
Jared.........................65...........................................................460
Enoch.......................162.........................................................622
Methuselah.............65............................................................687
Lamech....................187..........................................................874
Noah........................182..........................................................1056

Book of Jubilees 4:28
And in the fifteenth jubilee in the third week Lamech took to himself a wife, and her name was Betenos the daughter of Baraki'il, the daughter of his father's brother, and in this week she bare him a son and he called his name Noah, saying, 'This one will comfort me for my trouble and all my work, and for the ground which YAHWEH has cursed.'

15th jubilee ends in year 735 (1 jubilee=49 years)
so we must take that is not over yet.
14 jubilee + 3 weeks of years(not even completed)
686 years + (14-21 years)
acording to book of jubilees Noah was born between the year 700-707

707 years in comparison to 1056 is a GREAT gap. and everything from there up to any age,

That's why i don't take the book of jubilees as cannon, is not posible to reconcile with the scripture.
AND another reason, every time that GOD YAHWEH said that ...let US (refering to self) in the book of jubilees said that GOD refered to the angels, in that way not recognizing the trinity, that's what gave me the doubt to star investigating.

GENESIS 1:26
Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
GENESIS 11:7
Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

JUBILEES 10:22
And YAHWEH our Sovereign Ruler said to us: Behold, they are one people, and (this) they begin to do, and now nothing will be withheld from them. Go to, let us go down and confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech, and they may be dispersed into cities and nations, and one purpose will no longer abide with them till the Day of Judgment.

That's my conclusion, and If i am wrong i ask GOD for wisdom
