Hi -- I just found this site and am enjoying a bit of surfing here. So nice to discover ongoing conversations, too.

I agree that the LoF can be associated with our God (who is a consuming fire). I believe that it is largely symbolic and that certainly the fire image is symbolic. The purpose of the fire is to purify. Hence I also see a type of the LoF in the Bronze Laver of the Tabernacle or Bronze Sea of the Temple. The original laver being made of the donated mirrors of the women who served at the doorway of the tent of meeting (a type of judgment -- seeing one's face in the mirror). The laver was of course used as part of the purification rituals required of the priests before entering the Holy Place.
Also, it's comforting to note that the LoF is just outside the gates (open gates) of Jerusalam. The Spirit and the Bride say COME! Let the one who is thirsty come and drink of the water of life without cost. It is a lake (out of which swimmers generally just walk to shore), and there is an invitation. If you're thirsty, come and drink. Who is thirsty but the one languishing in the LoF? Certainly not those in the Holy City. Whoever drinks this water will never thirst again. It can only be the anguished souls in the LoF. Come and drink. God is good.
