The Thermo Scientific Orion 8102BNUWP ROSS Ultra pH electrode is a general purpose combination electrode with a glass body, that allows the user to change the fill solution, and has a patented internal reference to minimize drift. ROSS pH electrodes have a ceramic junction for prolonging the life of the electrode, and a waterproof Bayonet Neill-Concelman (BNC) connection with a 1 m (39) cable. The electrodes are designed to allow the user to change the fill solution, depending on the sample requirements, and can be used on any pH meter with a BNC or U.S. standard connection. They also have a patented internal reference to mimimize drift and equilibrium time. Orion Ultra electrodes come with an extended warranty to 24 months, while typical electrode warranties are 3 to 12 months. This electrode is frequently used for research and quality assurance applications. The double-junction reference system separates the sample from contact with silver ions, which prolongs electrode life and allows electrode use with samples containing silver complexing or binding agents such as tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane (TRIS or THAM), proteins, and sulfides. Glass body electrodes are useful in highly corrosive environments where epoxy could be corroded, or around proteins and other compounds with high surface tension. pH range is 0 to 14 (+ or - 0.01), temperature range is 0 to 100 degrees C and body dimensions are 120 mm long x 12 mm deep. The electrode uses 3M KCl fill solution. Buffer and storage solutions are sold separately. pH electrodes are used for measuring the acidity or alkalinity of a substance. They are often constructed of glass, which senses hydrogen ions, and generates a millivoltage that is picked up by the filling solution and transferred to a wire that connects to the pH meter.
