It is used to purge the curse on Link, allowing him to return to his human form after he has been locked in his wolf form by Zant. After that, he has the ability to change between his two forms at will. It shines brightest in the Twilight Realm, where it can dissipate the fog that previously required Link to be in wolf form to navigate.
