John Gill's Bible Commentary Ver. 5. And they brought [that] which Moses commanded before the tabernacle of the congregation , etc.] That is, Aaron and his sons, and all the children of Israel, as the Targum of Jonathan paraphrases it. All the above sacrifices they brought into the court of the tabernacle to be offered up: and all the congregation drew near, and stood before the Lord ; that is, the elders of Israel, who were called together, ( Leviticus 9:1), the heads of the tribes who represented the people; as many as well could be admitted into the court no doubt were, to be spectators of Aaron and his sons officiating first in their new office, and to see their own sacrifices offered; and they stood over against where was the symbol of the divine Presence; and the Targum of Jonathan says, they stood with a perfect heart; and no doubt but they were heartily sincere and upright in their sacrifices, as they had been in their donations toward the building the tabernacle, and providing things belonging to it; and they stood with all humility, reverence, and devotion.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 1-21 - These many sacrifices, which were all done away by the death of Christ teach us that our best services need washing in his blood, and that the guilt of our best sacrifices needs to be done away by one more pure an more noble than they. Let us be thankful that we have such a Hig Priest. The priests had not a day's respite from service allowed. God' spiritual priests have constant work, which the duty of every da requires; they that would give up their account with joy, must redee time. The glory of God appeared in the sight of the people, and owne what they had done. We are not now to expect such appearances, but God draws nigh to those who draw nigh to him, and the offerings of fait are acceptable to him; though the sacrifices being spiritual, the tokens of the acceptance are spiritual likewise. When Aaron had don all that was to be done about the sacrifices, he lifted up his hand towards the people, and blessed them. Aaron could but crave a blessing God alone can command it.
