King James Bible - 2 Chronicles 15:16

And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

World English Bible

Also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and made dust of it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

Douay-Rheims - 2 Chronicles 15:16

Moreover Maacha the mother of king Asa he deposed from the royal authority, because she had made in a grove an idol of Priapus: and he entirely destroyed it, and breaking it into pieces, burnt it at the torrent Cedron.

Webster's Bible Translation

And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

SEV Biblia, Chapter 15:16

Y aun a Maaca madre del rey Asa, él mismo la depuso que no fuese reina, porque había hecho un ídolo en el bosque; y Asa deshizo su ídolo, y lo desmenuzó , y lo quemó en el arroyo de Cedrón.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Chronicles 15:16

Verse 16. Concerning Maachah] See the matter fully explained in the note on
1 Kings xv. 13.

The Jews imagine that Maachah repented, and her name became changed into Michaiah, daughter of Uriel of Gibeah; and that this was done that there might be no mention of her former name, lest it should be a reproach to her: but we have already seen another gloss on this name. See on chap. xi. 20.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 16-18. And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king , etc.] Or rather his grandmother, ( 1 Kings 15:10), he removed her from being queen ; the Septuagint version is, “that she should not minister to Astarte”; which was the goddess of the Zidonians; of this and the two next verses, (See Gill on “ 1 Kings 15:13”), (See Gill on “ 1 Kings 15:14”), (See Gill on “ 1 Kings 15:15”).

Matthew Henry Commentary

The people make a solemn
covenant with God.

--The work of complete reformation appeared so difficult, that Asa ha not courage to attempt it, till assured of Divine assistance an acceptance. He and his people offered sacrifices to God; thanksgivin for the favours they had received, and supplication for furthe favours. Prayers and praises are now our spiritual sacrifices. The people, of their own will, covenanted to seek the Lord, each for himself, with earnestness. What is religion but seeking God, inquirin after him, applying to him upon all occasions? We make nothing of ou religion, if we do not make heart-work of it; God will have all the heart, or none. Our devotedness to God our Saviour, should be avowe and shown in the most solemn and public manner. What is done in hypocrisy is a mere drudgery __________________________________________________________________
