    SEV Biblia, Chapter 2:25

    Y l les dijo: ¿Nunca leisteis qu hizo David cuando tuvo necesidad, y tuvo hambre, l y los que estaban con l;

    John Gill's Bible Commentary

    Ver. 25. And he said unto them , etc..] By way of answer to their
    question, and which was a full one, and enough to silence them: have ye never read what David did ; referring to the history in ( <092101> Samuel 21:1-15). when he had need : of bread, was in great necessity, and in the utmost distress: and was an hungered, he, and they that were with him ? which was a justifiable reason for what he and his company did; as it was for the action of the disciples; being in a like case, and therefore very appropriate to the purpose; (see Gill on Matthew 12:3).

    Matthew Henry Commentary

    Verses 23-28 - The
    sabbath is a sacred and Divine institution; a privilege an benefit, not a task and drudgery. God never designed it to be a burde to us, therefore we must not make it so to ourselves. The sabbath wa instituted for the good of mankind, as living in society, having man wants and troubles, preparing for a state of happiness or misery. Ma was not made for the sabbath, as if his keeping it could be of servic to God, nor was he commanded to keep it outward observances to his rea hurt. Every observance respecting it, is to be interpreted by the rul of mercy __________________________________________________________________

    25. Had need. Mark adds this to the was an hungered, which is in both Matthew and Luke. The analogy lay in the necessity. The had need is generic; the was hungry is specific, describing the
    peculiar character of the need.
