King James Bible - 2 Kings 25:25

But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah.

World English Bible

But it happened in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal seed came, and ten men with him, and struck Gedaliah, so that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldeans that were with him at Mizpah.

Douay-Rheims - 2 Kings 25:25

But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ismael the son of Nathanias, the son of Elisama of the seed royal came, and ten men with him: and smote Godolias so that he died: and also the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him in Maspha.

Webster's Bible Translation

But it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, came, and ten men with him, and smote Gedaliah, that he died, and the Jews and the Chaldees that were with him at Mizpah.

VERSE (25) -
Zec 7:5; 8:19

SEV Biblia, Chapter 25:25

Mas en el mes séptimo vino Ismael hijo de Netanías, hijo de Elisama, de la simiente real, y con él diez varones, e hirieron a Gedalías, y murió; y también a los judíos y caldeos que estaban con él en Mizpa.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Kings 25:25

Verse 25. Smote Gedaliah] This was at an entertainment which Gedaliah had made for them; see
Jer. xli. 1, &c. He was not content with this murder, but slew fourscore more, who were coming with offerings to the temple, and took several as prisoners, among whom were some of the king's daughters; and set off to go to the Ammonites: but Johanan, the son of Careah, hearing of these outrages, raised a number of men, and pursued Ishmael upon which Ishmael's prisoners immediately turned and joined Johanan; so that he, and eight of his accomplices, with difficulty escaped to the Ammonites. See Jer. xli. 1, &c. Baalis, king of the Ammonites, had sent Ishmael to murder Gedaliah; and of this he was informed by Johanan, who offered to prevent it, by taking away the life of this murderer. But Gedaliah could not believe that he harboured such foul designs, and therefore took no precaution to save his life. See Jer. xl. 13-16.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 25. And it came to pass in the seventh month , etc.] Not of Gedaliah’s
government, but of the year, the month Tisri or September, near two months after the destruction of Jerusalem; the Jews say fifty two days after it; of the death of Gedaliah, and the man that slew him, as here related, (see Gill on “ Jeremiah 41:1-3”).

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 22-30 - The king of
Babylon appointed Gedaliah to be the governor and protecto of the Jews left their land. But the things of their peace were s hidden from their eyes, that they knew not when they were well off Ishmael basely slew him and all his friends, and, against the counse of Jeremiah, the rest went to Egypt. Thus was a full end made of the by their own folly and disobedience; see Jeremiah chap. 40 to 4 Jehoiachin was released out of prison, where he had been kept 37 years Let none say that they shall never see good again, because they have long seen little but evil: the most miserable know not what tur Providence may yet give to their affairs, nor what comforts they ar reserved for, according to the days wherein they have been afflicted Even in this world the Saviour brings a release from bondage to the distressed sinner who seeks him, bestowing foretastes of the pleasure which are at his right hand for evermore. Sin alone can hurt us; Jesu alone can do good to sinners __________________________________________________________________
