Temían al SEÑOR, y honraban también a sus dioses, según la costumbre de los gentiles que habían hecho traspasar de allí.
Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Kings 17:33
Verse 33. They feared the Lord, and served their own gods] They did not relinquish their own idolatry but incorporated the worship of the true God with that of their idols. They were afraid of Jehovah, who had sent lions among them; and therefore they offered him a sort of worship that he might not thus afflict them: but they served other gods, devoted themselves affectionately to them, because their worship was such as gratified their grossest passions, and most sinful propensities.

Ver. 33. They feared the Lord, and served their own gods , etc.] Worshipped both: after the manner of the nations whom they carried away from thence ; the Israelites, whom they had carried captive from Samaria; they worshipped the Lord in their idols, as they did, who pretended to worship God in the calves; so they worshipped the supreme God in and by their idols, and made use of them as mediators with him.
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 24-41 - The terror of the Almighty will sometimes produce a forced or feigne submission in unconverted men; like those brought from differen countries to inhabit Israel. But such will form unworthy thoughts of God, will expect to please him by outward forms, and will vainly try to reconcile his service with the love of the world and the indulgence of their lusts. May that fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom, possess our hearts, and influence our conduct, that we may be ready for every change. Wordly settlements are uncertain; we know no whither we may be driven before we die, and we must soon leave the world; but the righteous hath chosen that good part which shall not be taken from him __________________________________________________________________
