SEV Biblia, Chapter 17:14
Entonces Absalón y todos los de Israel dijeron: El consejo de Husai araquita es mejor que el consejo de Ahitofel. Porque el SEÑOR había mandado que el acertado consejo de Ahitofel fuese disipado, para que el SEÑOR hiciese venir el mal sobre Absalón.
John Gill's Bible Commentary
Ver. 14. And Absalom and all the men of Israel said , etc.] That is, the elders, who before approved of the counsel of Ahithophel, ( 2 Samuel 17:4); the counsel of Hushai the Archite [is] better than the counsel of Ahithophel ; it appeared to them most plausible, and most likely to be attended with success: for the Lord had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel ; for so it was to Absalom and his party the best and wisest that could be given them; but it was the Lord’s will it should be defeated, and therefore the minds of Absalom and of the elders of Israel were blinded: to the intent that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom ; his person and cause; that his cause might be ruined, and he himself slain in battle; (see Proverbs 19:21).
Matthew Henry Commentary
Verses 1-21 - Here was a wonderful effect of Divine Providence blinding Absalom' mind and influencing his heart, that he could not rest in Ahithophel' counsel, and that he should desire Hushai's advice. But there is n contending with that God who can arm a man against himself, and destro him by his own mistakes and passions. Ahithophel's former counsel wa followed, for God intended to correct David; but his latter counsel wa not followed, for God meant not to destroy him. He can overrule all counsels. Whatever wisdom or help any man employs or affords, the success is from God alone, who will not let his people perish.
