to confirm these days of Purim in their appointed times, as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had decreed, and as they had imposed upon themselves and their descendants, in the matter of the fastings and their cry.

    Douay-Rheims - Esther 9:31

And observe the days of lots, and celebrate them with joy in their proper
time: as Mardochai and Esther had appointed, and they undertook them to be observed by themselves and by their seed, fasts, and cries, and the days of lots,

    Webster's Bible Translation

    VERSE (31) -
    :27

    SEV Biblia, Chapter 9:31

para confirmar estos días del Purim en sus tiempos señalados , según les había constituído Mardoqueo judío y la reina Ester, y como habían ellos tomado sobre sí y sobre su simiente las palabras de los ayunos y de su clamor.

    Clarke's Bible Commentary - Esther 9:31

    Verse 31. As they had
decreed for themselves and for their seed] There is no mention of their receiving the approbation of any high priest, nor of any authority beyond that of Mordecai and Esther; the king could not join in such a business, as he had nothing to do with the Jewish religion, that not being the religion of the country.

    John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 31. To confirm these days of Purim in their times
appointed , etc.] The fourteenth and fifteenth of Adar: according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them ; in the letters written and signed by them both: and as they had decreed for themselves, and for their seed ; (see Esther 9:27), the matters of their fastings and their cry ; in commemoration of their deliverance from those distresses and calamities which occasioned fastings and prayers during the time of them; and to this sense is the former Targum; though it is certain the Jews observe the thirteenth day, the day before the two days, as a fast, and which they call the fast of Esther f186 , and have prayers on the festival days peculiar to them; but the sense Aben Ezra gives seems best, that as the Jews had decreed to keep the fasts, mentioned in ( Zechariah 7:5), so they now decreed to rejoice in the days of Purim.

    Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 20-32 - The observance of the
Jewish feasts, is a public declaration of the truth of the Old Testament Scriptures. And as the Old Testamen Scriptures are true, the Messiah expected by the Jews is come long ago and none but Jesus of Nazareth can be that Messiah. The festival wa appointed by authority, yet under the direction of the Spirit of God It was called the feast of Purim, from a Persian word, which signifie a lot. The name of this festival would remind them of the almight power of the God of Israel, who served his own purposes by the superstitions of the heathen. In reviewing our mercies, we shoul advert to former fears and distresses. When our mercies are personal we should not by forgetfulness lose the comfort of them, or withhol from the Lord the glory due to his name. May the Lord teach us to rejoice, with that holy joy which anticipates and prepares for the blessedness of heaven. Every instance of Divine goodness to ourselves is a new obligation laid on us to do good, to those especially who mos need our bounty. Above all, redemption by Christ binds us to be merciful, 2Co 8:9 __________________________________________________________________
