VERSE (46) -
Mt 27:59,60 Lu 23:53 Joh 19:38-42

SEV Biblia, Chapter 15:46

El cual compr una sbana, y quitndole, le envolvi en la sbana, y le puso en un sepulcro que estaba cavado en una pea, y revolvi la piedra a la puerta del sepulcro.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 46. And he
bought fine linen , etc..] That is, Joseph, as is expressed in the Vulgate Latin, Syriac, and Persic versions; which, when he had done, as is highly probable, in the city of Jerusalem, he went to Mount Calvary, and took him down ; took the body of Christ down from the cross; though, no doubt, with the assistance of others, or by others, and not he himself, at least not alone: and wrapped him in the linen ; wound him up in it, as was the manner of the Jews; (see Gill on Matthew 27:59); and laid him in a sepulchre, which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre ; (see Gill on Matthew 27:60).

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 42-47 - We are here attending the
burial of our Lord Jesus. Oh that we may be grace be planted in the likeness of it! Joseph of Arimathea was one wh waited for the kingdom of God. Those who hope for a share in it privileges, must own Christ's cause, when it seems to be crushed. Thi man God raised up for his service. There was a special providence, tha Pilate should be so strict in his inquiry, that there might be n pretence to say Jesus was alive. Pilate gave Joseph leave to take dow the body, and do what he pleased with it. Some of the women behel where Jesus was laid, that they might come after the sabbath to anoin the dead body, because they had not time to do it before. Specia notice was taken of Christ's sepulchre, because he was to rise again And he will not forsake those who trust in him, and call upon him Death, deprived of its sting, will soon end the believer's sorrows, a it ended those of the Saviour __________________________________________________________________

Stone. See on Matt. xxvii. 60.

Robertson's NT Word Studies

15:46 {
Wound} (eneilesen). this word is only here in the N.T. As entulissw is only in #Mt 27:59; Lu 23:53; Joh 20:7. Both verbs occur in the papyri, Plutarch, etc. They both mean to wrap, wind, roll in. The body of Jesus was wound in the linen cloth bought by Joseph and the hundred pounds of spices brought by Nicodemus (#Joh 19:39) for burying were placed in the folds of the linen and the linen was bound around the body by strips of cloth (#Joh 19:40). The time was short before the sabbath began and these two reverently laid the body of the Master in Joseph's new tomb, hewn out of a rock. The perfect passive participle (lelatomemenon) is from latomos, a stonecutter (lws, stone, temnw, to cut). For further details see on Mt 27:57-60. #Lu 23:53 and #Joh 19:41 also tell of the new tomb of Joseph. Some modern scholars think that this very tomb has been identified in Gordon's Calvary north of the city. {Against the door} (epi ten quran). Matthew has the dative tei qurai without epi and adds the adjective "great" (megan).
