King James Bible - Nehemiah 13:26

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.

World English Bible

Didn't Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations was there no king like him, and he was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless foreign women caused even him to sin.

Douay-Rheims - Nehemiah 13:26

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin in this kind of thing? and surely among many nations, there was not a king like him, and he was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: m and yet women of other countries brought even him to sin.

Webster's Bible Translation

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.

1Ki 11:1-8 Ec 7:26

SEV Biblia, Chapter 13:26

¿No pecó por esto Salomón, rey de Israel? Bien que en muchas naciones no hubo rey como él, que era amado de su Dios y Dios lo había puesto por rey sobre todo Israel, aun a él hicieron pecar las mujeres extranjeras.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Nehemiah 13:26

Verse 26. Did not
Solomon] Have you not had an awful example before you? What a heavy curse did Solomon's conduct bring upon himself and upon the people, for a conduct such as yours?

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 26. Did not
Solomon king of Israel sin by these things ? etc.] By marrying strange wives, by whom he was drawn into idolatry, ( 1 Kings 11:3,4), yet among many nations was there no king like him ; as not for grandeur and riches, so not for wisdom, and yet was ensnared by his idolatrous wives: who was beloved of God ; alluding to his name Jedidiah, which signifies beloved of the Lord, ( 2 Samuel 12:24,25) and God made him king over all Israel ; which was a proof of his love to him, and so he was under the greater obligation to serve him, and him only, and yet his heart, through his wives, was turned after other gods: even him did outlandish women cause to sin ; and if so great and wise a man was enticed by them to idolatry, much more may you, and therefore it was very dangerous to marry with them.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 23-31 - If either
parent be ungodly, corrupt nature will incline the children to take after that one; which is a strong reason why Christians shoul not be unequally yoked. In the education of children, great care shoul be taken about the government of their tongues; that they learn not the language of Ashdod, no impious or impure talk, no corrup communication. Nehemiah showed the evil of these marriages. Some, mor obstinate than the rest, he smote, that is, ordered them to be beate by the officers according to the law, De 25:2, 3. Here are Nehemiah' prayers on this occasion He prays, "Remember them, O my God." Lord convince and convert them; put them in mind of what they should be an do. The best services to the public have been forgotten by those for whom they were done, therefore Nehemiah refers himself to God, to recompense him. This may well be the summary of our petitions; we nee no more to make us happy than this; Remember me, O my God, for good. We may humbly hope that the Lord will remember us and our services although, after lives of unwearied activity and usefulness, we shal still see cause to abhor ourselves and repent in dust and ashes, and to cry out with Nehemiah, Spare me, O my God, according to the greatnes of they mercy __________________________________________________________________
