King James Bible - Jeremiah 15:18

Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?

    World English Bible

Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? will you indeed be to me as a deceitful [brook], as waters that fail?

    Douay-Rheims - Jeremiah 15:18

Why is my sorrow become perpetual, and my wound desperate so as to refuse to be healed? it is become to me as the falsehood of deceitful waters that cannot be trusted.

    Webster's Bible Translation

Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether to me as a liar, and as waters that fail?

    Jer 14:19 Ps 6:3; 13:1-3 La 3:1-18

    SEV Biblia, Chapter 15:18

¿Por qué fue perpetuo mi dolor, y mi herida desahuciada no admitió cura? Eres conmigo como mentiroso, como aguas que no son fieles.

    Clarke's Bible Commentary - Jeremiah 15:18

Verse 18. Wilt thou be altogether unto me as-waters that
fail?] Leaning either springs, which in the height of summer grow dry; or, like that phenomenon in the sandy desert, where, by a peculiar action of the air on the rising vapors, the resemblance of water is produced, so that the traveler, deceived, rejoices that he is come, in the sandy desert, to the verge of a beautiful lake; but the farther he travels, it is still at the same distance, and at last vanishes; and he finds the whole was an illusion, for the waters have failed. Nothing can exceed the disappointment of the farmer whose subsistence absolutely depends on the periodical rains, when these fail, or fall short of their usual quantity. Some times the rice is sown and springs up in the most promising manner; but the latter rains fail, and whole fields of young rice wither and perish.
    Matthew Henry Commentary
    The
destruction of the wicked described. (Jer. 15:1-9) The prophe laments such messages, and is reproved. (Jer. 15:10-14) He supplicate pardon, and is promised protection. (Jer. 15:15-21)

Jer. 15:1-9 The Lord declares that even Moses and Samuel must have pleaded in vain. The putting of this as a case, though they shoul stand before him, shows that they do not, and that saints in heaven d not pray for saints on earth. The Jews were condemned to differen kinds of misery by the righteous judgment of God, and the remnant woul be driven away, like the chaff, into captivity. Then was the populou city made desolate. Bad examples and misused authority often produc fatal effects, even after men are dead, or have repented of their crimes: this should make all greatly dread being the occasion of sin in others.

Jer. 15:10-14 Jeremiah met with much contempt and reproach, when the ought to have blessed him, and God for him. It is a great an sufficient support to the people of God, that however troublesome their way may be, it shall be well with them in their latter end. God turn to the people. Shall the most hardy and vigorous of their efforts be able to contend with the counsel of God, or with the army of the Chaldeans? Let them hear their doom. The enemy will treat the prophe well. But the people who had great estates would be used hardly. All parts of the country had added to the national guilt; and let each tak shame to itself.

Jer. 15:15-21 It is matter of comfort that we have a God, to whose knowledge of all things we may appeal. Jeremiah pleads with God for mercy and relief against his enemies, persecutors, and slanderers. I will be a comfort to God's ministers, when men despise them, if the have the testimony of their own consciences. But he complains, that he found little pleasure in his work. Some good people lose much of the pleasantness of religion by the fretfulness and uneasiness of their natural temper, which they indulge. The Lord called the prophet to cease from his distrust, and to return to his work. If he attende thereto, he might be assured the Lord would deliver him from his enemies. Those who are with God, and faithful to him, he will delive from trouble or carry through it. Many things appear frightful, whic do not at all hurt a real believer in Christ __________________________________________________________________
