    John Gill's Bible Commentary

    Ver. 25. It is easier for a
    camel , etc..] (See Gill on Matthew 19:24).

    Matthew Henry Commentary

    Verses 23-31 -
    Christ took this occasion to speak to his disciples about the difficulty of the salvation of those who have abundance of this world Those who thus eagerly seek the wealth of the world, will never rightl prize Christ and his grace. Also, as to the greatness of the salvatio of those who have but little of this world, and leave it for Christ The greatest trial of a good man's constancy is, when love to Jesu calls him to give up love to friends and relatives. Even when gainer by Christ, let them still expect to suffer for him, till they reac heaven. Let us learn contentment in a low state, and to watch agains the love of riches in a high one. Let us pray to be enabled to par with all, if required, in Christ's service, and to use all we ar allowed to keep in his service.

    Needle (rafidov). A word stigmatized by the grammarians as unclassical. One of them (Phrynichus) says, "As for rJafiv, nobody would know what it is." Matthew also uses it. See on Matt. xix. 24. Luke uses, belonhv, the surgical needle. See on Luke xviii. 25.

    10:25 {
    Needle's eye} (trumalias rhafidos). See on Mt 19:24 for discussion. Luke uses the surgical needle, belones. Matthew has the word rhafis like Mark from rhaptw, to sew, and it appears in the papyri. Both Matthew and Luke employ trematos for eye, a perforation or hole from titraw, to bore. Mark's word trumalias is from truw, to wear away, to perforate. In the LXX and Plutarch.
