    King James Bible - 2 Kings 23:34

And Pharaoh-nechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the room of Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt, and died there.

    World English Bible

Pharaoh Necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the
place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim: but he took Jehoahaz away; and he came to Egypt, and died there.

    Douay-Rheims - 2 Kings 23:34

And Pharao Nechao made Eliacim the son of Josias king in the room of Josias his father: and turned his name to Joakim. And he took Joachaz away and carried him into Egypt, and he died there.

    Webster's Bible Translation

And Pharaoh-nechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the room of Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away: and he came to Egypt and died there.

    VERSE (34) -
    Jos 18:18 2Ch 36:3,4

    SEV Biblia, Chapter 23:34

Entonces Faraón Necao puso por rey a Eliacim hijo de Josías, en lugar de Josías su padre, y le mudó el nombre en el de Joacim; y tomó a Joacaz, y lo llevó a Egipto, y murió allí.

    Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Kings 23:34

Verse 34. Turned his name to Jehoiakim] These names are precisely the same in signification: ELIAKIM is
God shall arise; JEHOIAKIM, Jehovah shall arise; or, the resurrection of God; the resurrection of Jehovah. That is, God's rising again to show his power, justice, &c. The change of the name was to show Nechoh's supremacy, and that Jehoiakim was only his vassal or viceroy. Proofs of this mode of changing the name, when a person of greater power put another in office under himself, may be seen in the case of Mattaniah, changed into Zedekiah; Daniel, Mishael, Hananiah, and Azariah, into Belteshazzar, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; and Joseph into Zaphnath-paaneah. See Daniel i. 6, 7; Gen. xli. 45.

    John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 34. And Pharaohnechoh made Eliakim the son of
Josiah king in the room of Josiah his father , etc.] Not in the room of Jehoahaz; for he did not allow him to be a king, and to have any lawful right to the throne; but, deposing him, set up his elder brother: and turned his name to Jehoiakim ; to show his subjection to him, and that he held his government by him: and took Jehoahaz away : with him, from Jerusalem, when he departed thence: and he came to Egypt, and died there : and never returned to Jerusalem, according to the prophecy of Jeremiah, ( Jeremiah 22:11).

    Matthew Henry Commentary

    Verses 31-37 - After
Josiah was laid in his grave, one trouble came on another, till in twenty-two years, Jerusalem was destroyed. The wicked perished in great numbers, the remnant were purified, and Josiah's reformation ha raised up some to join the few who were the precious seed of their future church and nation. A little time, and slender abilities, ofte suffice to undo the good which pious men have, for a course of years been labouring to effect. But, blessed be God, the good work which he begins by his regenerating Spirit, cannot be done away, but withstand all changes and temptations __________________________________________________________________
