King James Bible - Psalms 123:2

Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.

World English Bible

Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look to Yahweh, our God, until he has mercy on us.

Douay-Rheims - Psalms 123:2

Behold as the eyes of the servants are on the hands of their masters, As the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress: so are our eyes unto the Lord our God, until he have mercy on us.

Webster's Bible Translation

Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until he shall have mercy upon us.

SEV Biblia, Chapter 123:2

He aquí como los ojos de los siervos miran a la mano de sus seņores, y como los ojos de la sierva a la mano de su seņora; así nuestros ojos esperan al SEŅOR nuestro Dios, hasta que tenga misericordia de nosotros.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Psalms 122:2

Verse 2. As the eyes of
servants ] We now wait for thy commands, feeling the utmost readiness to obey them when made known to us. The words may be understood as the language of dependence also. As slaves expect their support from their masters and mistresses, so do we ours from thee, O Lord! Or, As servants look to their masters and mistresses, to see how they do their work, that they may do it in the same way; so do we, O Lord, that we may learn of thee, and do thy work in thy own Spirit, and after thy own method. Some think that there is a reference here to the chastisement of slaves by their masters, who, during the time they are receiving it, keep their eyes fixed on the hand that is inflicting punishment upon them, professing deep sorrow, and entreating for mercy. And this sense seems to be countenanced by the following words: -

Matthew Henry Commentary

Confidence in God under contempt.

--Our Lord Jesus has taught us to look unto God in prayer as our Fathe in heaven. In every prayer a good man lifts up his soul to God especially when in trouble. We desire mercy from him; we hope he wil show us mercy, and we will continue waiting on him till it come. The eyes of a servant are to his master's directing hand, expecting that he will appoint him his work. And also to his supplying hand. Servant look to their master or their mistress for their portion of meat in du season. And to God we must look for daily bread, for grace sufficient from him we must receive it thankfully. Where can we look for help but to our Master? And, further, to his protecting hand. If the servant i wronged and injured in his work, who should right him, but his master And to his correcting hand. Whither should sinners turn but to him tha smote them? They humble themselves under God's mighty hand. And lastly to his rewarding hand. Hypocrites look to the world's hand, thence the have their reward; but true Christians look to God as their Master an their Rewarder. God's people find little mercy with men; but this in their comfort, that with the Lord there is mercy. Scorning and contemp have been, are, and are likely to be, the lot of God's people in thi world. It is hard to bear; but the servants of God should not complai if they are treated as his beloved Son was. Let us then, when ready to faint under trials, look unto Jesus, and by faith and prayer cas ourselves upon the mercy of God __________________________________________________________________
