    King James Bible - 2 Kings 19:23

By the messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.

    World English Bible

By your messengers you have defied the Lord, and have said, 'With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost
parts of Lebanon; and I will cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.

    Douay-Rheims - 2 Kings 19:23

    By the
hand of thy servants thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said: With the multitude of my chariots I have gone up to the height of the mountains, to the top of Libanus, and have cut down its tall cedars, and its choice fir trees. And I have entered into the furthest parts thereof, and the forest of its Carmel.

    Webster's Bible Translation

By thy messengers thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my chariots I am come up to the hight of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut down its
tall cedar trees, and its choice fir trees: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.

    SEV Biblia, Chapter 19:23

    Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Kings 19:23

    Verse 23. The
tall cedar trees-the choice fir trees] Probably meaning the princes and nobles of the country.

The forest of his Carmel.] Better in the margin: the forest and his fruitful field.

    Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 20-34 - All Sennacherib's motions were under the Divine cognizance. God himsel undertakes to defend the city; and that person, that place, cannot but be safe, which he undertakes to protect. The invasion of the Assyrian probably had prevented the land from being sown that year. The next is supposed to have been the sabbatical year, but the Lord engaged tha the produce of the land should be sufficient for their support durin those two years. As the performance of this promise was to be after the destruction of Sennacherib's army, it was a sign to Hezekiah's faith assuring him of that present deliverance, as an earnest of the Lord' future care of the kingdom of Judah. This the Lord would perform, no for their righteousness, but his own glory. May our hearts be as goo ground, that his word may strike root therein, and bring forth fruit in our lives.
