SEV Biblia, Chapter 2:22

Por tanto, cuando resucit de los muertos, sus discípulos se acordaron que les había dicho esto; y creyeron a la Escritura, y a la palabra que Jess había dicho.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - John 2:22

Verse 22. Remembered that he had said this unto them] autoiv, to them, is wanting in AEHLMS, Matt. BV, upwards of one
hundred others; both the Syriac; Persic, Arabic, Coptic, AEthiopic, Armenian, Slavonic, Vulgate, and Itala. Griesbach has left it out of the text.

They believed the scripture] The scripture which the evangelist immediately refers to may have been Psa. xvi. 10. Compare this with Acts ii. 31, 32, and with Acts xiii. 35-37. See also Psa. ii. 7, and compare it with Heb. i. 5, and Heb. v. 5, and with Acts xiii. 33. They understood these scriptures in a sense in which they never before understood them.

It is the property of many prophecies never to be understood except by their accomplishment; but these are so marked that, when their fulfillment takes place, they cannot be misunderstood, or applied to any other event.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 22. When therefore he was risen from the dead , etc.] Which was three years after this: his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them ; either to the Jews, or to them the disciples; though the phrase to them, is not in the Vulgate Latin, nor in any of the Oriental versions. The disciples themselves were very dull of understanding the doctrine of Christs resurrection; and so they continued, notwithstanding he gave them afterwards very full hints of it, until that he was actually risen; and then they called to mind these words of his, with others that dropped from him upon the same subject: and they believed the Scripture ; that spoke of his resurrection, ( Psalm 16:10), and on the third day, ( Hosea 6:2). And the word which Jesus had said ; concerning his rising again the third day at this time, and at others, as in ( Matthew 16:21 17:23 20:19); and they believed his word equally with the Scripture, it agreeing to it, and being founded on it.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 12-22 - The first public work in which we find
Christ engaged, was driving from the temple the traders whom the covetous priests and rulers encourage to make a market-place of its courts. Those now make God's house house of merchandise, whose minds are filled with cares about worldl business when attending religious exercises, or who perform Divin offices for love of gain. Christ, having thus cleansed the temple, gav a sign to those who demanded it, to prove his authority for so doing He foretells his death by the Jews' malice, Destroy ye this temple; will permit you to destroy it. He foretells his resurrection by his ow power; In three days I will raise it up. Christ took again his ow life. Men mistake by understanding that according to the letter, whic the Scripture speaks by way of figure. When Jesus was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered he has said this. It helps much i understanding the Divine word, to observe the fulfilling of the Scriptures.

Vincent's NT Word Studies

22. Was risen (hgerqh). Rev., more correctly, was
raised. The same verb as in vv. 19, 20.

Had said (elegen). Rev., more correctly, He spake. The best texts omit unto them.

Believed the Scripture (episteusan th grafh). Notice that ejpioteusan, believed, is used here with the simple dative, and not with the preposition eijv, into (see on i. 12). The meaning is, therefore, they believed that the Scripture was true. On grafh, a passage or section of Scripture, see on Mark xii. 10.

In John, as elsewhere, the word almost always refers to a particular passage cited in the context. The only two exceptions are xvii. 12; xx. 9. For the Old Testament, as a whole, John always uses the plural aiJ grafai The passage referred to here is probably Ps. xvi. 10. Compare Acts ii. 27, 31; xiii. 35.

The word. The saying just uttered concerning the destruction of the temple.
