    King James Bible - 2 Samuel 18:32

And the king said unto Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.

    World English Bible

The king said to the Cushite, "Is it well with the young man Absalom?" The Cushite answered, "May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you to do you harm, be as that young man is."

    Douay-Rheims - 2 Samuel 18:32

And the king said to Chusai: Is the young man Absalom safe? And Chusai answering him, said: Let the enemies of my lord, the king, and all that rise against him unto evil, be as the young man is.

    Webster's Bible Translation

And the king said to Cushi, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushi answered, May the enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.

    SEV Biblia, Chapter 18:32

El rey entonces dijo a Cusi: ¿El joven Absalón tiene paz? Y Cusi respondió: Como aquel joven sean los enemigos de mi señor el rey, y todos los que se levantan contra ti para mal.

    Clarke's Bible Commentary - 2 Samuel 18:32

Verse 32. Is the young man
Absalom safe?] This was the utmost of his solicitude, and it well merited the reproof which Joab gave him, chap. xix. 5.

    John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 32. And the king said unto Cushi, is the young man
Absalom safe ? etc.] The same question that was put to Ahimaaz, ( 2 Samuel 18:29); which shows what lay nearest his heart, and was uppermost in his mind, and Cushi answered, the enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do [thee] hurt, be as [that] young man [is] , which was tacitly saying he was dead, and so David understood it; and he expressed it in such a manner, that David could not be displeased with the messenger; though the message was grievous to him.

    Matthew Henry Commentary

    Verses 19-33 - By directing
David to give God thanks for his victory, Ahimaaz prepare him for the news of his son's death. The more our hearts are fixed an enlarged, in thanksgiving to God for our mercies, the better dispose we shall be to bear with patience the afflictions mixed with them. Some think David's wish arose from concern about Absalom's everlastin state; but he rather seems to have spoken without due thought. He is to be blamed for showing so great fondness for a graceless son. Also for quarrelling with Divine justice. And for opposing the justice of the nation, which, as king, he had to administer, and which ought to be preferred before natural affection. The best men are not always in good frame; we are apt to over-grieve for what we over-loved. But whil we learn from this example to watch and pray against sinful indulgence or neglect of our children, may we not, in David, perceive a shadow of the Saviour's love, who wept over, prayed for, and even suffered deat for mankind, though vile rebels and enemies __________________________________________________________________
