    King James Bible - 2 Samuel 18:22

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?

    World English Bible

Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, "But come what may, please let me also run after the Cushite." Joab said, "Why do you want to run, my son, since that you will have no reward for the news?"

    Douay-Rheims - 2 Samuel 18:22

Then Achimaas the son of Sadoc said to Joab again: Why might not I also run after Chusai? And Joab said to him: Why wilt thou run, my son? thou wilt not be the bearer of good tidings.

    Webster's Bible Translation

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But however, let me also, I pray thee, run after Cushi. And Joab said, Why wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?

    VERSE (22) -
    Ro 1:28 Eph 5:4

    SEV Biblia, Chapter 18:22

    John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 22. Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to
Joab , etc.] He could not be easy, even though a messenger was dispatched, but pressed Joab still: but howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushi ; only permit me to go after him, though not as a messenger: and Joab said, wherefore wilt thou run, my son ? having a great affection for him, and concerned that he should take trouble on him to no purpose: seeing thou hast no tidings ready ; no news to carry, but what Cushi is gone with, and so can have no audience of the king, nor any reward from him.

    Matthew Henry Commentary

    Verses 19-33 - By directing
David to give God thanks for his victory, Ahimaaz prepare him for the news of his son's death. The more our hearts are fixed an enlarged, in thanksgiving to God for our mercies, the better dispose we shall be to bear with patience the afflictions mixed with them. Some think David's wish arose from concern about Absalom's everlastin state; but he rather seems to have spoken without due thought. He is to be blamed for showing so great fondness for a graceless son. Also for quarrelling with Divine justice. And for opposing the justice of the nation, which, as king, he had to administer, and which ought to be preferred before natural affection. The best men are not always in good frame; we are apt to over-grieve for what we over-loved. But whil we learn from this example to watch and pray against sinful indulgence or neglect of our children, may we not, in David, perceive a shadow of the Saviour's love, who wept over, prayed for, and even suffered deat for mankind, though vile rebels and enemies __________________________________________________________________
