SEV Biblia, Chapter 14:30

Pero viendo el viento fuerte, tuvo miedo; y comenzndose a hundir, dio voces, diciendo: Seor, slvame.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Matthew 14:30

Verse 30. When he saw the wind
boisterous, he was afraid] It was by faith in the power of Christ he was upheld; when that faith failed, by which the laws of gravitation were suspended, no wonder that those laws returned to their wonted action, and that he began to sink. It was not the violence of the winds, nor the raging of the waves, which endangered his life, but his littleness of faith.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 30. But when he saw the wind
boisterous , etc.] Or strong, blowing hard against him, and raising up the waves, which beat with great violence upon him, he was afraid ; though Christ was so nigh him, and he had had such an instance of his power in bearing him up, causing him to walk upon the waters thus far; which shows, that his faith was imperfect: and beginning to sink ; through fear, and the violence of the wind and waves, just ready to be immersed, and go down to the bottom of the sea, he cried ; being in a great fright and much danger, and with great importunity and eagerness, saying, Lord, save me : I am just going, I shall certainly perish else; still having so much faith in Christ, that he was able to save him in the last extremity.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 22-33 - Those are not
Christ's followers who cannot enjoy being alone with God and their own hearts. It is good, upon special occasions, and when we find our hearts enlarged, to continue long in secret prayer, and i pouring out our hearts before the Lord. It is no new thing for Christ' disciples to meet with storms in the way of duty, but he thereby show himself with the more grace to them and for them. He can take what wa he pleases to save his people. But even appearances of deliveranc sometimes occasion trouble and perplexity to God's people, from mistakes about Christ. Nothing ought to affright those that have Chris near them, and know he is theirs; not death itself. Peter walked upo the water, not for diversion or to boast of it, but to go to Jesus; an in that he was thus wonderfully borne up. Special supports ar promised, and are to be expected, but only in spiritual pursuits; no can we ever come to Jesus, unless we are upheld by his power. Chris bade Peter come, not only that he might walk upon the water, and s know his Lord's power, but that he might know his own weakness. And the Lord often lets his servants have their choice, to humble and prove them, and to show the greatness of his power and grace. When we loo off from Christ, and look at the greatness of opposing difficulties, we shall begin to fall; but when we call to him, he will stretch out his arm, and save us. Christ is the great Saviour; those who would be saved, must come to him, and cry to him, for salvation; we are neve brought to this, till we find ourselves sinking: the sense of nee drives us to him. He rebuked Peter. Could we but believe more, we should suffer less. The weakness of faith, and the prevailing of ou doubts, displease our Lord Jesus, for there is no good reason wh Christ's disciples should be of a doubtful mind. Even in a stormy da he is to them a very present help. None but the world's Creator coul multiply the loaves, none but its Governor could tread upon the water of the sea: the disciples yield to the evidence, and confess their faith. They were suitably affected, and worshipped Christ. He tha comes to God, must believe; and he that believes in God, will come, He 11:6.

Vincent's NT Word Studies

30. He was afraid. "Although," says Bengel, "a fisherman and a good swimmer" (
John xxi. 7).

Robertson's NT Word Studies

14:30 {Seeing the wind} (blepwn ton anemon). Cf. #Ex 20:18 and #Re 1:12 "to see the voice" (tn fwnen). "It is one thing to see a
storm from the deck of a stout ship, another to see it in the midst of the waves" (Bruce). Peter was actually beginning to sink (katapontizesthai) to plunge down into the sea, "although a fisherman and a good swimmer" (Bengel). It was a dramatic moment that wrung from Peter the cry: "Lord, save me" (kurie, s"son me), and do it quickly the aorist means. He could walk on the water till he saw the wind whirl the water round him.
