VERSE (44) -
1Sa 23:1-14

SEV Biblia, Chapter 15:44

y Keila, y Aczib, y Maresa; nueve ciudades con sus aldeas.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Joshua 15:44

Verse 44. Keilah] This
town was near Hebron, and is said to have been the burying-place of the prophet Habakkuk. David obliged the Philistines to raise the siege of it; (see 1 Sam. xxiii. 1-13;) but finding that its inhabitants had purposed to deliver him into the hands of Saul, who was coming in pursuit of him, he made his escape. See this remarkable case explained in the note on Deut. xxxii. 15.

Mareshah] Called also Maresheth and Marasthi; it was the birth-place of the prophet Micah. Near this place was the famous battle between Asa, king of Judah, and Zera, king of Cush or Ethiopia, who was at the head of one thousand thousand men, and three hundred chariots. Asa defeated this immense host and took much spoil, 2 Chron. xiv. 9-15.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 44. And Keilah , etc.] The first of these is a well known city, which David saved from the hands of the Philistines, ( 1 Samuel 23:1), etc. In Jerom’s time it was a little village to the east of Eleutheropolis, about eight miles from it, as you go to Hebron; in which was shown the sepulchre of the Prophet Habakkuk f355 . And Achzib is said to be on the borders of Asher, ( Joshua 19:29), and is supposed the same with Chezib, ( Genesis 38:5); and the Ecdippa of Josephus and others, and now called Zib; (see Gill on “ Micah 1:14”); and Mareshah ; Jerom says f356 , only the ruins of it were to be seen two miles from Eleutheropolis: nine cities with their villages ; which is just their number.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 20-63 - Here is a list of the cities of
Judah. But we do not here fin Bethlehem, afterwards the city of David, and ennobled by the birth of our Lord Jesus in it. That city, which, at the best, was but littl among the thousands of Judah, Mic 5:2, except that it was thu honoured, was now so little as not to be accounted one of the cities __________________________________________________________________
