VERSE (30) -
Lu 13:34 Jer 8:8 Ro 10:21 2Co 6:1 Ga 2:21

SEV Biblia, Chapter 7:30

Mas los fariseos y los sabios de la ley, desecharon el consejo de Dios contra sí mismos, no siendo bautizados de l.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Luke 7:30

Verse 30.
Rejected the counsel of God] Or, frustrated the will of God-thn boulhn tou qeou hqethsan. Kypke says the verb aqetein has two meanings:-1, to disbelieve; 2, despise, or disobey: and that both senses may be properly conjoined here. The will of God was that all the inhabitants of Judea should repent at the preaching of John, be baptized, and believe in Christ Jesus. Now as they did not repent, &c., at John's preaching, so they did not believe his testimony concerning Christ: thus the will, gracious counsel, or design of God, relative to their salvation, was annulled or frustrated. They disbelieved his promises, despised the Messiah, and disobeyed his precepts.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 30. But the
Pharisees and lawyers , etc.] Or Scribes, as the Syriac and Persic versions read; for the Scribes and lawyers were the same sort of persons. The Ethiopic version calls them, the Scribes of the city: these rejected the counsel of God against themselves; against their own advantage, to their hurt and detriment; since by their impenitence and unbelief, and through their rejection of Christ and his forerunner, and the Gospel and the ordinances of it, they brought ruin and destruction, both temporal and eternal, upon themselves: or towards themselves, or unto them; that is, they rejected the command of God unto them, as the Arabic version renders it: for by the counsel of God here, is not meant his purpose, intention, and design, with respect to these persons, which was not, nor never is frustrated; but the precept of God, and so the Ethiopic version renders it, they despised the command of God : that is, the ordinance of baptism, which was of God, and the produce of his counsel and wisdom, as the whole scheme, and all the ordinances of the Gospel are, and not the invention of men: or they rejected this in themselves, as it may be rendered, and is by the Syriac and Persic versions; not openly and publicly, for they were afraid of the people, but inwardly and privately, and which their actions and conduct declared: being not baptized of him ; of John: by their neglect of this ordinance, they testified their aversion to it, and rejection of it.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 19-35 - To his
miracles in the kingdom of nature, Christ adds this in the kingdom of grace, To the poor the gospel is preached. It clearl pointed out the spiritual nature of Christ's kingdom, that the messenger he sent before him to prepare his way, did it by preachin repentance and reformation of heart and life. We have here the jus blame of those who were not wrought upon by the ministry of Joh Baptist or of Jesus Christ himself. They made a jest of the methods God took to do them good. This is the ruin of multitudes; they are no serious in the concerns of their souls. Let us study to prove ourselve children of Wisdom, by attending the instructions of God's word, an adoring those mysteries and glad tidings which infidels and Pharisee deride and blaspheme.

Vincent's NT Word Studies

30.
Lawyers (nomikoi). Not legal practitioners, but interpreters and doctors of the Mosaic law.

Rejected (hqethsan). Set aside, or annulled; made it vain through their disobedience.

Against themselves (eis eautouv). More strictly, with reference to themselves.

Robertson's NT Word Studies

7:30 {Rejected for themselves} (eqetesan eis heautous). The first aorist active of aqetew first seen in LXX and Polybius. Occurs in the papyri. These legalistic interpreters of the law refused to admit the need of confession of sin on their part and so set aside the baptism of John. They annulled God's purposes of grace so far as they applied to them. {Being not baptized by him} (me baptisqentes hup' autou). First aorist passive participle. me is the usual negative of the participle in the _Koin_.
