VERSE (33) -
Joh 8:44 1Pe 5:8 Re 9:11

SEV Biblia, Chapter 8:33

Y salidos los demonios del hombre, entraron en los puercos; y el hato de ellos se arroj por un despeadero en el lago, y se ahog.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Luke 8:33

Verse 33. Then went the
devils out of the man, and entered into the swine] Some critics and commentators would have us to understand all this of the man himself, who, they say, was a most outrageous maniac; and that, being permitted by our Lord, he ran after the swine, and drove them all down a precipice into the sea! This is solemn trifling indeed; or, at least, trifling with solemn things. It is impossible to read over the account, as given here by Luke, and admit this mode of explanation. The devils went out of the man, and entered into the swine; i.e. the madman ran after the swine! On this plan of interpretation there is nothing certain in the word of God; and every man may give it what meaning he pleases. Such comments are intolerable.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 22-40 - Those that put to
sea in a calm, even at Christ's word, must ye prepare for a storm, and for great peril in that storm. There is n relief for souls under a sense of guilt, and fear of wrath, but to go to Christ, and call him Master, and say, I am undone, if thou dost no help me. When our dangers are over, it becomes us to take to ourselve the shame of our own fears, and to give Christ the glory of ou deliverance. We may learn much out of this history concerning the worl of infernal, malignant spirits, which though not working now exactly in the same way as then, yet all must at all times carefully guar against. And these malignant spirits are very numerous. They have enmity to man and all his comforts. Those under Christ's government ar sweetly led with the bands of love; those under the devil's governmen are furiously driven. Oh what a comfort it is to the believer, that all the powers of darkness are under the control of the Lord Jesus! It is miracle of mercy, if those whom Satan possesses, are not brought to destruction and eternal ruin. Christ will not stay with those wh slight him; perhaps he may no more return to them, while others ar waiting for him, and glad to receive him.

Vincent's NT Word Studies

33.
Ran violently (wrmhsen). Rev., more neatly, rushed. Only Mark gives the number of the swine, two thousand.

A steep place. See on Matt. ix. 32.

Robertson's NT Word Studies

8:33 {Rushed down the steep} (hwrmesen kata tou kremnou). Ablative with kata as in #Mr 5:13; Mt 8:32 and the same vivid verb in each account, to hurl impetuously, to rush. {Were choked} (apepnige). Second aorist (constative) passive indicative third singular (collective singular) where #Mr 5:13 has the picturesque imperfect epnigonto.
