VERSE (52) -
Lu 7:27; 10:1 Mal 3:1

SEV Biblia, Chapter 9:52

Y envi mensajeros delante de sí, los cuales fueron y entraron en una ciudad de los samaritanos, para hacerle preparativos.

Clarke's Bible Commentary - Luke 9:52

Verse 52. Sent messengers] aggelouv,
angels, literally; but this proves that the word angel signifies a messenger of any kind, whether Divine or human. The messengers in this case were probably James and John.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 52. And sent messengers before his face , etc.] Who very likely were his two
disciples, James and John, since they so highly resented the ill treatment their master met with from the Samaritans: and they went ; before him: and entered into a village of the Samaritans ; or city, as the Vulgate Latin, Persic, and Ethiopic versions read, and so one of Stephens's copies; which lay in the way from Galilee to Judea, where the disciples had been forbid to enter, that is, in order to preach, ( Matthew 10:5) To make ready for him ; to prepare a lodging, and proper food for him and his disciples, as they passed on in their journey, for his intention was not to make any stay there.

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 51-56 - The
disciples did not consider that the conduct of the Samaritans wa rather the effect of national prejudices and bigotry, than of enmity to the word and worship of God; and through they refused to receive Chris and his disciples, they did not ill use or injure them, so that the case was widely different from that of Ahaziah and Elijah. Nor wer they aware that the gospel dispensation was to be marked by miracles of mercy. But above all, they were ignorant of the prevailing motives of their own hearts, which were pride and carnal ambition. Of this ou Lord warned them. It is easy for us to say, Come, see our zeal for the Lord! and to think we are very faithful in his cause, when we ar seeking our own objects, and even doing harm instead of good to others.

Robertson's NT Word Studies

9:52 {Sent messengers} (apesteilen aggelous). As a precaution since he was going to
Jerusalem through Samaria. The Samaritans did not object when people went north from Jerusalem through their country. He was repudiating Mount Gerizim by going by it to Jerusalem. this was an unusual precaution by Jesus and we do not know who the messengers ({angels}) were. {To make ready for him} (hws hetoimasai autwi). hws is correct here, not hwste. The only examples of the final use of hws with the infinitive in the N.T. are this one and #Heb 7:9 (absolute use). In #Acts 20:24 Westcott and Hort read hws teleiwsw and put hws teleiwsai in the margin (Robertson, _Grammar_, p. 1091).
