    1Sa 24:14,15; 26:18 Mt 26:55 Lu 22:52,53

    SEV Biblia, Chapter 14:48

Y respondiendo Jess, les dijo: ¿Cmo a ladrn habis salido con espadas y con palos a tomarme?

    John Gill's Bible Commentary

    Ver. 48. And
Jesus answered and said unto them , etc..] To the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, that came with the band and officers, as appears from ( Luke 22:52). The Persic version reads, to the multitude: are ye come out as against a thief, with swords and with staves, to take me ? (see Gill on Matthew 26:55).

    Matthew Henry Commentary

    Verses 43-52 - Because
Christ appeared not as a temporal prince, but preache repentance, reformation, and a holy life, and directed men's thoughts and affections, and aims to another world, therefore the Jewish ruler sought to destroy him. Peter wounded one of the band. It is easier to fight for Christ than to die for him. But there is a great differenc between faulty disciples and hypocrites. The latter rashly and withou thought call Christ Master, and express great affection for him, ye betray him to his enemies. Thus they hasten their own destruction.

    Vincent's NT Word Studies

    48. A
thief. Rev., better, robber. See on Matt. xxvi. 55, and Mark xi. 17.

51, 52. The incident is related by Mark only. There is no means of knowing who the youth may have been. Conjecture has named Mark himself, John, James the Just, Lazarus, the brother of Martha and Mary, and St. Paul!

    Robertson's NT Word Studies

14:48 {Against a robber} (epi leisten). Highway robbers like barabbas were common and were often regarded as heroes. Jesus will be crucified between two robbers in the very place that barabbas would have occupied.
