2Ki 8:12-15; 10:32 Jer 17:9 1Co 10:12

SEV Biblia, Chapter 14:71

Y l comenz a maldecir y a jurar: No conozco a este hombre de quien hablis.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 71. But he began to
curse and to swear , etc..] To wish the most dreadful things upon himself, and to swear by the living God; [saying], I know not this man of whom ye speak : (see Gill on Matthew 26:74).

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 66-72 - Peter's denying
Christ began by keeping at a distance from him. Thos that are shy of godliness, are far in the way to deny Christ. Those wh think it dangerous to be in company with Christ's disciples, becaus thence they may be drawn in to suffer for him, will find it much mor dangerous to be in company with his enemies, because there they may be drawn in to sin against him. When Christ was admired and flocked after Peter readily owned him; but will own no relation to him now he is deserted and despised. Yet observe, Peter's repentance was very speedy Let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall; and let his that has fallen think of these things, and of his own offences, an return to the Lord with weeping and supplication, seeking forgiveness and to be raised up by the Holy Spirit __________________________________________________________________

Vincent's NT Word Studies

71.
Curse (anaqematizein). Compare on Matt. xxvi. 74; where the word is kataqematizein, to call down (kata) curses on himself if he were not telling the truth. The words are Synonymous.

Robertson's NT Word Studies

14:71 {
Curse} (anaqematizein). Our word _anathema_ (ana, qema, an offering, qen something devoted or a curse). Finally the two meanings were distinguished by anaqema for offering and anaqema for curse. Deissmann has found examples at Megara of anaqema in the sense of curse. Hence the distinction observed in the N.T. was already in the _Koin_. #Mt 26:74 has kataqematizein, which is a hapax legomenon in the N.T., though common in the LXX. this word has the notion of calling down curses on one's self if the thing is not true.
