VERSE (43) -
Mt 26:47 Lu 22:47,48 Joh 18:3-9 Ac 1:16

SEV Biblia, Chapter 14:43

¶ Y luego, an hablando l, vino Judas, que era uno de los doce, y con l una multitud con espadas y palos, de parte de los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y de los escribas y de los ancianos.

John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 43. And immediately, while he yet spake , etc..] The above words: cometh
Judas one of the twelve : apostles of Christ, and which was an aggravation of his wickedness; the Vulgate Latin, Syriac, Arabic, Persic, and Ethiopic, versions add, Iscariot; and so it is read in one of Beza's copies. The Ethiopic version reads, one of the ten, very wrongly: and with him a great multitude ; a band of men and officers, with many of the chief priests and captains of the temple, and elders of the people, that mixed themselves with the crowd, to see how things would issue: with swords and staves ; which they intended to make use of, should any resistance be made in apprehending him, or any attempt to rescue him: from the chief priests, and the Scribes, and the elders ; from the Jewish sanhedrim, which consisted of these; (see Gill on Matthew 26:47).

Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 43-52 - Because
Christ appeared not as a temporal prince, but preache repentance, reformation, and a holy life, and directed men's thoughts and affections, and aims to another world, therefore the Jewish ruler sought to destroy him. Peter wounded one of the band. It is easier to fight for Christ than to die for him. But there is a great differenc between faulty disciples and hypocrites. The latter rashly and withou thought call Christ Master, and express great affection for him, ye betray him to his enemies. Thus they hasten their own destruction.

Vincent's NT Word Studies

43. One of the twelve. See on
Matt. xxvi. 47; as also on multitude.

Robertson's NT Word Studies

14:43 {And the
scribes} (kai twn grammatewn). Mark adds this item while #Joh 18:3 mentions "Pharisees." It was evidently a committee of the Sanhedrin for Judas had made his bargain with the Sanhedrin (#Mr 14:1; Mt 26:3; Lu 22:2). See discussion of the betrayal and arrest on Mt 26:47-56 for details.
