    World English Bible

But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" (he said to the paralyzed man), "I tell you, arise, and take up your cot, and go to your house."

But that you may know that the Son of man hath

    SEV Biblia, Chapter 5:24

Pues para que sepis que el Hijo del hombre tiene potestad en la tierra de perdonar pecados, (dice al paralítico): A ti digo, levntate, toma tu lecho, y vete a tu casa.

    John Gill's Bible Commentary

Ver. 24. But that ye may know, that the son of man , etc.] Whom the
Scribes and Pharisees took for a mere man, in which they were mistaken; for though he was really a man, and the son of man, yet he was God as well as man; he was God manifest in the flesh: hath power upon earth to forgive sins ; even in the days of his flesh, whilst he was in his humble form on earth; for he did not cease to be God by becoming man, nor lose any branch of his power, not this of forgiving sin, by appearing in the form of a servant; and, that it might be manifest, he said unto the sick of the palsy : these are the words of the evangelist, signifying, that Christ turned himself from the Scribes and Pharisees to the paralytic man, and thus addressed him: I say unto thee, arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house .

    Matthew Henry Commentary

Verses 17-26 - How many are there in our
assemblies, where the gospel is preached, wh do not sit under the word, but sit by! It is to them as a tale that is told them, not as a message that is sent to them. Observe the dutie taught and recommended to us by the history of the paralytic. I applying to Christ, we must be very pressing and urgent; that is a evidence of faith, and is very pleasing to Christ, and prevailing with him. Give us, Lord, the same kind of faith with respect to thy abilit and willingness to heal our souls. Give us to desire the pardon of sin more than any earthly blessing, or life itself. Enable us to believ thy power to forgive sins; then will our souls cheerfully arise and go where thou pleasest.

    Vincent's NT Word Studies

    24. Unto thee (soi).
Standing first for emphasis. Luke emphasizes the direct address to the man: unto thee I say, in contrast with the apparently less direct, thy sins be forgiven thee. In Jesus' mind the connection was assumed; now he brings out the personal side of the connection. In forgiving the man's sins he had healed him radically. The command to rise and walk was of the same piece.

    Robertson's NT Word Studies

5:24 {He saith unto him that was palsied} (eipen twi paralelumenwi). this same parenthesis right in the midst of the
words of Jesus is in #Mr 2:11; Mt 9:6, conclusive proof of interrelation between these documents. The words of Jesus are quoted practically alike in all three Gospels, the same purpose also hina eidete (second perfect active subjunctive).
